Adopt A Tree Hawaii

Ahu Lani Sanctuary is a 24 acre Acacia Koa and Ohea re-forestry project on the slopes of Mauna Kea on the Hamma Kua Side of the Big Island. Thats what I've been up to for the last 6 weeks. While I've been at Ahu Lani, Adopt a Tree has been birthed and finally launched as a way to get the interest of the public in the very crucial re-forestry of the Hamma Kua side. The past 100 years have been detrimental de-forestation of this side of the Island for sugar cane and pasture land. The de-forestation has decimated the climate, land and water ways. Restoring the water channels that run all along this side of the island, and eventually into the ocean is what the re-forestry is all about. There are some pictures I took for the website.

Look at me being a neo-hippy tree hugger planting and taking care of baby koa. =)
